King : Man
A 20-minute show within the “MDX Fresh Fest” turned 40-minute show put on at The Golden Goose a year after. It takes the audience through an equally funny and violent circus performance, where a “volunteer” writer is forced to perform and compose an entertaining piece of literature.
As the audience follows the creative process along with the characters, we learn more about the writer’s life and their anxieties about being an artist.
The show explores themes of grief and suicide, as well as the motivations and passions of a creative individual in contrast with their responsibilities and social expectations.
Apart from developing the idea and writing the script, I have also designed the set and have made the entire soundscape, as well as worked on collecting and making the props.
It's a clever nod to the struggle of being an artist in 2026 - the constant battle between your passion and the soul-crushing reality of social expectations, and an economy that's currently obsessed with AI and cutting arts funding. - Pink Prince Theatre
